The friend of the late Grammy-winning British singer Amy Winehouse was acquitted of raping a girlfriend while she slept in her bed.

                  Reg Traviss, 35, was acquitted of raping two times the 27-year-old woman with a jury at London's Southwark Crown Court on Thursday after a three-day trial. "I'm really relieved, really relieved that it's all over," said Traviss.

                        "I've never done. During the past nine months or which have long been crazy."

                      Prosecutors had alleged that in the early hours of New Year's Eve last year Traviss wife, attacked a friend after she was so drunk she could not stand.

                       The Director said that the police would be dropped after CCTV images showed the woman walking unaided with Traviss in a taxi on the way to his apartment, contradicting what she told police.

                   "It feels like anyone can complain and end their day in court," Traviss said.

                    In an unusual step, says Traviss lawyer Ian Winter after the acquittal of the charges should not have gotten far.

                    He said: "I do not think in my career, I defended a case where I have been so sure of innocence of my client." Traviss, who thanked Judge Deborah Taylor and hugged his family and friends after the verdict, said the pair had consensual sex after a night out drinking together.

                     He said that during the proceedings that he had hoped to have a relationship with the complainant to start. Traviss was in a relationship with Winehouse when she died of alcohol poisoning in her London home in July last year.
