Solve important to ensuring the internet's success of google problem
Many of the big European tech entrepreneurs meet at the annual LeWeb conference in Paris this week to celebrate the future - an "Internet of Things", guided by intelligent devices.
But instead of Paris, the most far-reaching European meeting on the future of the Internet this week have taken place in Brussels on Monday.
In contrast to the radically transparent networking culture that characterizes LeWeb, was the event in Brussels a meeting between two powerful bureaucrats that took place, like all meetings between powerful bureaucrats, behind closed doors.
Jon Leibowitz, chairman of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) met with Joaquin Almunia, Vice-President of the European Commission to Google to discuss - the dominant company on the Internet today. In particular, they should discuss potential FTC and EU anti-trust lawsuits against tech giant to discuss, in an attempt to Google the problem.
It is a very simple problem. The future may indeed arrived on the Internet. But instead of being ruled by intelligent devices, it is unfortunately becoming more and more of one company - Google, more than 90% of the search market control in several European countries. And the problem, as both the FTC and the Commission recognizes that this dominance may partly illegal.
Google is accused in both Europe and the U.S. to use its dominance in search unfairly promoting its own products and services - from travel and shopping comparison engines advertising and mapping.
Google's Eric Schmidt spoke at Le Web last year. "This particular conference is one of the best locations for new entrepreneurs in Europe," he said, quite rightly, the largest Internet event in Europe.
But for future entrepreneurs to innovate, we must be honest quest that does not give priority to the products and services from Google itself.
We are so confident in Leibowitz and Almunia. Let us hope that they can make a decision on whether to continue with their anti-trust cases against the end of the year. Let us hope that the Google problem.
