New Delhi gang rape matter crackdown to India police
New Delhi: Police locked key government district in New Delhi on Monday on a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin, after two days of sloping street battles after gang rape of a woman on a bus.
Putin is scheduled to meet with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday and later president of India.
Authorities safety barriers around Raisina Hills area of the city was founded - home to the presidential palace, the parliament building and the federal ministry blocks. Only those authorized to work in the district could pass.
Singh again in solidarity with the victims of sexual assault in a televised speech Monday. He also reiterated an earlier call for peace and a promise of safety for women and children.
On Sunday, defied outraged protesters a police ban on demonstrations, clashes repeatedly with police.

If an officer sprayed water cannons, spread some, while others huddled tightly in a circle of high pressure flows braving the cold December weather.
"We want justice!" the protesters chanted.
In addition to banners and cardboard signs, carried many protesters Indian flag as they scuffled with police. Authorities also tear gas to try to break crowds.
Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said: "hooligans, who joined the protesters" threw stones and injured 78 officers on Sunday. At least 65 protesters were also wounded, he said.
Many police vans and a dozen buses were damaged during the demonstrations, he said.
"We will do everything to ensure safety and security for all women in this country to achieve," the Indian leader. "I urge all concerned citizens to maintain peace and tranquility."
In its statement acknowledged Singh that anger is "normal and justified."

Rape victim's injuries were so severe that many days spent in intensive care in a city hospital, fighting for his life. Police said Saturday that they had recovered enough to give an explanation to a judge from his hospital bed the night before.
But on Sunday, the an operation to flush out infection in her abdomen underwent, her doctors said.
The protests were among many anti-rape demonstrations staged across the country over the past week.
