Israel to build border fence with Syria, says PM

Israel to build border fence with Syria, says PM

JERUSALEM - Israeli Prime Minister says he will build a fortified fence on the border with Syria against radical Islamic forces that he claims have taken over the area.

Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel must be a barrier, such as a new Egyptian border fence that he says has stemmed the flow of African migrants. He said that the Syrian regime was "unstable" and Israel was concerned about chemical weapons in the country. He told his cabinet on Sunday that the border "the Syrian army has moved away, and instead, Global Jihad forces moved in."

Global Jihad is the term used for Israel forces influenced by Al-Qaeda. Syria rebels include some Al-Qaeda-linked fighters.

Israel has largely remained out of the conflict, although a number of mortar shells landed in the Israeli-held Golan Heights.
