Music legend Pandit Ravi Shankar is no more
92-year-old sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar died in a hospital in San Diego. He was hospitalized after he complained of breathing difficulties.
Over his 60 odd years as a musician, has Shankar won many national and international awards. He received the Padma Bhushan in 1967, Padma Vibhushan in 1981 and Bharat Ratna in 1999. He is also a three-time Grammy winner. He is an honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and is a member of the United Nations International Rostrum of Composers.
In addition to his contribution to Indian classical music, has Shankar also composed for films in India and abroad.
Ravi Shankar was nominated as a member of the Rajya Sabha in 1986.

Norah Jones is Pandit Ravi Shankar's daughter with American Sue Jones, with whom he had nearly a 5 year relationship. Sitar player Anoushka Shankar, his daughter Sukanya Rajan.
